Climbing across these walls will have you going around the bend, literally! Pick your moves carefully and ring that bell!

This Aussie original design is one of our racer’s favourite challenges, use the hand holds to climb up and over.

The most fun you’ll have trying to cross a river, make sure you keep your balance as you run and jump your way across the floating pontoons.

Don’t try this at home! You have one throw to hit the target with a Spartan spear, don’t overthink, just go for it!

An obstacle classic, you’ll need a head for heights as you climb up and over our 5m A-frame net.

Keep low as you make your way through, commando crawl or barrel roll, it’s up to you. Either way you’ll be getting muddy!

You will need to get across without touching the ground. Featuring rings, bars, and even balls, this will bring out the ninja in you!

Here’s a few of the key obstacles you’ll tackle in a Spartan Race!

Spartan Race is the world's biggest obstacle race series, designed to get regular people motivated, active, and training for a life changing challenge!


We have three primary course distances from 7km to 21km, and three wave types to cater for various levels of competition, as well as a kids race! We allow racers to choose the event that's right for them, whatever their fitness level, and whatever their age.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

  • Our mission is to help thousands of Australians rip themselves off the couch and transform themselves. We're not just a bucket list item, we're a community, and Spartan is our way of life!

  • Our events are held at locations that combine proximity to a state capital with stunning terrain and unique natural features like creeks, mountains and native wildlife. 

  • Spartan is not just about great running, or gimmicky obstacles. Life in Sparta did not involve electric shocks! Our courses include up to 45 unique obstacles to challenge, excite, and test your functional fitness. From traverse walls and floating bridges to cargo nets and spear throws, Spartan is an experience like no other! 

  • If you fail an obstacle you must complete 30 burpees before continuing. You can read the full race rules here.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I run in a team?
Yes! You can choose to run the race in a team with friends, family, or even Ben from accounts. Or you can opt to run the race solo, and compete against your mates.

Am I fit enough?
Absolutely. We have people in their 70s running the Sprint. If you exercise at least 3 times a week, you're more than ready. We also release plenty of training videos, and have a training guide on our website to help get yourself Spartan fit.

Is it an actual race?
Up to you. Run at whatever pace you like and push yourself. Your race is timed, but the open wave is all about conquering the obstacles with your mates, and getting across the finish line.

Are the Burpees a real thing?
Hell yeah they are. Burpees, posing an actual challenge, and taking part in a race and a community are what sets Spartan apart. We're not a bucket list item. We want you to transform, grow, and come back again and again! However, only the age group and elite waves will have their burpees monitored by referees.

What wave is best for me?
Open - Best option if you're a rookie. You'll be running alongside likeminded people and the majority are first time Spartans. Your race will be timed, but you won't be subject to all of the competitive rules.

Age Group - Best for those wanting to take the step up and compete, but are not yet Elite athletes. You'll battle for points within your age group, and be in to win prizes, bragging rights, and the chance to qualify for the Spartan World Champs.

Elite - These athletes are competing to win prize money, test themselves against the best of the best, attract potential sponsors, and rise to the top of Spartan Race. Racers adhere strictly to the race rules and guidelines. Racers who fail to follow these guidelines risk disqualification.
